Low response to family planning at Danyame

Danyame (B/A), Dec 28, GNA- Mrs Mary Amoaten, a Principal Nursing Officer at Dormaa Ahenkro in Brong Ahafo, has said that there is low response by the reproductive age group in the Dormaa District to family planning.

Mrs Amoateng was speaking at a family planning outreach educational programme organised by the Dormaa District directorate of the health services at Danyame.

The programme aimed at educating women on the need to adopt family planning to enable them to have sizable families.

She noted that increase in the population has brought untold hardships in the country because the central government could not provide adequate facilities for the increasing population. Mrs Amoateng was not happy about the way some women terminate pregnancies and asked women to adopt family planning methods for a better life.

She expressed concern about the increasing rate of teenage pregnancy in the district.

She asked women to attend clinic for counseling earlier to determine the appropriate family planning drugs to be administered on them.

Mrs Amoateng explained the various types of family planning to the women and advised them to adopt family planning to help space the birth of their children.

Dr Christian Nyarko Aduana, District Director of Health Services noted that malaria and increase in population are among the problems facing the sub-region.

He stressed the need for women to adopt family planning to ensure that they have sizable family for the children to have quality education.

Nana Okaforobour Brafo, chief of the town who presided, stressed the need for people to observe proper hygiene and environmental cleanliness.
