Lotto receivers in Northern Region calls for decentralization of DNL

operations

Tamale, Feb.28, GNA -Lotto receivers in the Northern Region have called for the decentralization of the operations of the Department of National Lotteries (DNL) to enhance revenue mobilization.

Mr James Owusu, Regional Chairman of the Lotto Receiver Union who was speaking at an end-of year- reception in Tamale, suggested the need for the DNL to open offices in Bolgatanga and Wa as part of the decentralisation process and step up public interest in its services in the rural communities. He appealed to the Department to fulfil its promise to pay lottery winnings promptly to avoid industrial action from the receivers.

Mr Owusu also asked the DNL to restore the soft-loan scheme that was instituted for receivers a couple of years ago and provide means of transport to its Tamale Area office to facilitate business operations. He expressed concern that Ghana was unable to raise sufficient revenue to support its development programmes.

Mr Brandsford Kodi, Regional Manager of the DNL who chaired the function said without the lotto receivers the Department would not be in business.
