Mrs Lordina Mahama, the First Lady, has commissioned a state-of-the-art Information Communication Technical (ICT) facility equipped with the latest technology for the people of Ampoma Community in the Brong Ahafo Region.
The Lordina Foundation facilitated the building of the Ultramodern ICT Centre, built by Huawei Technologies Ghana Limited as part of their corporate social responsibility.
The Centre has a 20-seater capacity, a reception area, manager’s office and a room for training purposes and it is meant to provide ICT skills training for the youth of the Ampoma community.
Mrs Mahama, who hails from the Ampoma community, had earlier during a visit distributed sandals and school bags to school children.
As part of her working tour of the Region, Mrs Mahama commissioned the Centre which would also serve as an ICT Hub for the Kintampo community and its environs as well as enable school pupils in the area access the ICT Lab and internet facilities.
“This will help greatly to bridge the digital gap in the country. ICT is not just for urban residents,” Mrs Mahama stated.
She said recognizing the importance of the nation’s economic development through ICT, the Ministry of Communications was building similar ICT centres in all districts throughout the country.
She said the government through the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC), had also equipped all the ICT Laboratories at the recently commissioned Community Day Schools with Computers.
“Government is also constructing a Business Process Outsourcing Centre near the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange to create 10,000 direct and indirect jobs for our youth”.
Mrs Mahama commended Huawei, also a partner in the on-going e-Government Capacity Building implementation for building the Ampoma ICT Centre, and urged managers of the Centre to ensure regular maintenance of the centre so it would live to its expectation.
She, however, urged others in the private sector to partner government to invest in ICT development and innovation to help increase productivity and profitability, and at the same time enhance the quality of labour the private sector desperately needs.
