Snippet of information gathered by this paper indicates that a former National Organiser of the NPP, Lord Commey, has received the most severe beatings of his life from the bodyguards of twice defeated NPP flag-bearer, Nana Akufo Addo.
The beating is said to have taken place in front of the gates of Nana Akufo Addo’s residence at Nima when Lord Commey arrived there to visit him.
According to party insiders, Lord Commey’s crime was failing to give to delegates monies given to him by godfathers in the Akufo Addo camp to be given to the delegates at the just ended delegates’ conference at Tamale.
The money was intended to induce the delegates to retain the then General Secretary of the party, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, a.k.a Sir John and vote for Fred Oware as National Chairman. But, Lord Commey is alleged to have failed to do as instructed and as he had promised to do, a situation the Akufo Addo camp believes accounted for the defeat of Sir John and the victory of Kwabena Agyapong.
The beating Lord Commey received first came to light when Newton-Offei Justice Abeeku, an NPP activist and secretary to Kwabena Agyepong posed a question on the walls of his facebook. The question posted on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 read: “What is it that I am hearing happened to Lord Commey at the gates of Nana Addo’s house recently; may you guys please help me out with the details since I am currently out of town,” In response, one NPP activist, Rutherford Amoako Mensah replied “They beat him. Slaps here and there for a job not done at Tamale.” Bortey Nketia Alabi-Doku said “Masa, he was beaten kikikikiki” Rob Oman Gates, explaining the cause of the beating wrote “people are really using Nana’s popularity to really loot party funds” while Ben Kweku Asare also revealed that “Lord Commey was beaten. Period.
This revelation will come as a shock to many people because Lord Commey is a close ally of Nana Akufo Addo who once built his security networks for him. The bodyguards are Lord Commey’s boys and that they will turn on him tells much about the pain there are harbouring after the Tamale conference. Some in the NPP opine that it is nemesis catching up with Lord Commey after he allegedly master-minded the slapping of Paul Afoko at the congress of the party at Legon in 2007 after claiming he (Afoko) was inducing delegates with money to vote for Alan Kyeremanteng!
