Longest serving chief dies

Nana Amoakwa II, Wassa Damanghene, the longest serving traditional ruler in the Western Region, has died at the age 94. A statement isssued in Accra said he served as the Damanghene of the Wassa Fiase Traditional Area for 59 years.

It said a delegation of chiefs from the area and the Ekuona Family of Bosomtwi Damang had formally informed President John Agyekum Kufuor of Nana Amoakwa’s death. He would be buried at the Royal Mausoleum at Damang on 11 April.
