Locked up foodstuffs now being carted to marketing centres

Wurampong (Ash), Nov. 12, GNA – Large quantities of foodstuffs and cash crops, which were locked up on the farms as a result of the deplorable nature of the eight-kilometre Offinso-Wurampong road are now being carted to the marketing and other urban centers, following the rehabilitation of the road.

The rehabilitation of the road was in response to a call to the Department of Feeder Roads to rehabilitate it to ease the suffering of communities along the road.

Madam Amma Pokuaa, the assemblywoman for Wurampong, who called the attention of the public to the deplorable condition of the road told the Ghana News Agency at Offinso on Wednesday that, the rehabilitated road had brought relief to the communities, since it had relieved them of the burden of having to carry their foodstuffs and cash crops to Offinso to transport them.

She said vehicles, which hitherto stopped plying the road had resumed, thereby making it easier and safer for the people to travel on the road.

Madam Pokuaa expressed her appreciation to the government and the Department of Feeder Roads for responding promptly to the farmers appeal and therefore, urged the farmers to increase food production as well as cash crops.

She advised farmers in the area to send their children of school-going age to school, especially those in the Adagya community, where there was very poor enrolment in the school. The assemblywoman, however, called on the Ghana Education Service (GES) to post three extra teachers to the Adagya Primary School to meet the full complement of teachers needed.
