Local GPRTU acquires land plots for members

Agona Swedru (C/R), Dec. 21, GNA – The Agona-Swedru-Accra branch Number Four of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), has acquired 45 building plots valued at 80 million cedis for distribution to its members.

Mr. George Obeng, Vice-Chairman of the branch announced this at end-of-year meeting at Agona Swedru on Sunday. Mr Obeng said the decision was to help 42 members of the union to acquire their houses.

He said the union has already completed the necessary papers on the land, adding that they would also bear the cost of the preparation of their building plans.

On discipline in the union, he said between January and December this year, eight recalcitrant members were suspended from driving for three months each for reckless driving, while five were also fined for 100,000 cedis each for committing various traffic offences. He warned that the union would not hesitate to impose a more severe punishment on reckless drivers, stressing that he would ensure that members maintained a high standard of discipline on the road at all times to save lives and property.

Mr Obeng warned passengers to stop putting pressure on drivers to speed since such act could contribute to fatal accident.
