Local distiller drowns in river Okye

Breman Asikuma (C/R), July 5, GNA – A 50-year-old liquor distiller based in Breman Asikuma, last week drowned in the river Okye while attempting to cross it, the police said.

Chief Inspector Nkrumah Danso of the Breman Asikuma Police Command, told the Ghana News Agency that on June 30, this year, the deceased, Kofi Mensah, was crossing the river when he slipped and got drowned. Chief Inspector Danso said divers retrieved Mensah’s body, which was almost decomposed, from the river on July 2 during a communal search for him.

He said a medical report testified that he died as a result of asphyxia due to drowning. The body has since been buried.
