Winneba (C/R), March 9, GNA – The local Council of Churches in Winneba on Sunday held a non-denominational service to thank God for a peaceful election and smooth transition of power in the country. Organised by executives of the council and was on the theme, “Developing in Unity,” it was also attended by a large crowd of people, including representatives of some political parties and Nananom.
In the sermon, the bishop of the Winneba Diocese of the Methodist Church, the Right Rev (Dr) Ekow Ghunney, asked Christians to continue to pray and thank God for sustainable peace in the country. He said the Churches in Winneba were ready to collaborate with the government to move the municipality forward and subsequently called on the people to rally behind the government. “Let us not allow politics to seep into the development of the area,” Bishop Ghunney advised. Bishop Ghunney advised Ghanaians not to expect too much from the government but work hard to complement its efforts. He asked the Member of Parliament for the area, Mr Mike Hammah, to constantly seek the face of God in a bid to overcome the challenges ahead. He appealed to the MP to take pragmatic steps to improve the results of candidates in the Constituency in the Basic Education Certificate Examinations.
The MP for Effutu, Mr Mike Hammah reminded the people in the area not to allow politics to divide them adding that, “our political differences must not make us enemies”. Mr Hammah reminded the Church to try and meet both the spiritual and material needs of their congregation.
