The Local Content Policy initiatives being spearheaded by the Ministry of Energy across the broad spectrum of Oil and Gas exploration and operations is being extended to the power sector. These policy reforms are designed to enhance the active participation of local and indigenous operators as well as ensuring that oil and gas businesses in addition to businesses within the power sector are done in line with international business ethics. Local content means the development of local skills, technology transfer, use of local manpower and local manufacturing.
On an official visit to Reroy Cables Limited, manufacturer of electrical cables and accessories, the Deputy Minister of Energy in charge of Power Dr. Kwabena Donkor indicated that for the country to become a major exporter of power there is the need to build indigenous capacity and take advantage of opportunities within that sector.
“It is in our interest as a nation to develop this Local Content Policy of Power to assist our indigenous companies in the Power sector like cable manufacturers since local firms are ultimately and probably the most important driver of economic incomes and growth in developing countries’, noted the Deputy Minister.
Dr. Kwabena Donkor assured Reroy Cables of the Ministry’s assistance in its pursuit for business interests on the international market.
Dr. Quartey-Papafio, Executive Director of Reroy Cables commended the Ministry of Energy for its practical approach to the realisation of the local content policy of power. He indicated that the company’s major aim is to make significant contribution to the development of the country with the production of quality electrical cables and aluminum conductors at competitive prices for infrastructural development and for growth of the construction industry.
