President Nana Akufo Addo has appointed Convener of pressure group, Let my vote Count Alliance (LMVCA) Mr. David Asante, as the Managing Director of the Ghana Publishing Company.
Mr Asante and his group played a key role in ensuring victory for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2016 general election holding several fora to sell the NPP and putting huge pressure on the Electoral Commission for the creation of a new voters register ahead of that election.
Let My Votes Count Alliance (LMVCA) became popular after the 2012 general elections when the group protested vehemently after that year’s elections over what the group considered as ‘irregularities and massive cheating’ during the polls.
LMVCA held several demonstrations across the country, the memorable one being the one held in Accra with the intent of mounting pressure on the EC to prepare a new register which saw over thousand people in attendance.
However what promised to be a peaceful event turned violent after the police started firing tear gas at the demonstrators, whipping ‘recalcitrant’ demonstrators which resulted in several sustaining injury with a protester losing one eye.
