Labour consultant Austin Gameh has questioned why workers take time off during working hours to monitor the on-going election petition case.
“…I don’t see why people should take precious working time off to be listening to this… its most unfortunate that this is happening,” he said.
According to a report by Citi FM’s Eugenia Tenkorang, even though a lot of people were praising the live broadcast of the Election Petition case, the broadcast was affecting productivity on the labour front.
According to Gameh, “It is something that is traditional with Ghanaians. Normally when there is something like this, the curiousity is very high and they would want to watch or listen to it but it is to the detriment of the economy.”
Speaking on Citi Eyewitness News, Gameh also attributed the problem to the public sector.
“The public sector in particular have not been given certain key targets to perform and so people are not mindful about the appraisal that would follow and the laws that will suffer. These are some of the things that should be changed in the system,” he stated.
Gameh further stated, “What is important is that hopefully, as we grow, we will learn to set proper key performance assigned tasks for people to do and therefore if you are busy, you don’t take time off to watch television.”
