‘Limann never lazed about chewing kola at the Castle’ – LECIAD Don

Late President Hilla Limann did not laze about in the Castle doing nothing but chewing bitter kola as speculated about him, Senior Research Fellow at the Legon Centre for International Affairs and Diplomacy (LECIAD) at the University of Ghana, Dr Vladimir Antwi-Danso has refuted.

Dr Antwi-Danso also brushed off claims that Dr Limann was an obdurate leader who listened to no one but himself.

Describing Limann as a man who came from “very humble beginnings; a man who never set himself to be president”, the LECIAD academic said the late political scientist and diplomat “was a big listener, and so I refute that the president was stubborn–that’s what they said–very stubborn that at the Castle, he doesn’t do anything but chew kola”.

“But kola is good. It doesn’t make you sleep. So it’s not true. Oh no! The rumours were out there”, he told an audience on Wednesday September 24 to mark the 35th anniversary of Limann’s investiture.

Dr Limann was Ghana’s only president of the third Republic. He was overthrown by Flt Lt Jerry Rawlings in 1981 after serving for 27 months in office.
