LIFE IN GHANA WILL BE TOLD IN PICTURES

Life in Ghana will be captured through the lens of Plymouth resident Peter Melhuish when he jets off to Africa next month.

The Plymouth City Council worker from Mannamead, who celebrated his 25th birthday this week, is embarking on a three-month voluntary mission to the country to capture the colourful culture on camera.

He is joining more than 100 other volunteers from British-based youth development charity Raleigh International to help improve life for the people of Ghana.

Projects will include community work, such as building schools, wells and toilet facilities, and adventure work, such as taking part in canoeing or trekking missions.

Peter’s main role in the group, however, is to photograph the team as they work in hot and humid temperatures.

His photographs will be used for Raleigh brochures and in libraries.

The adventurous cameraman will fly out to Ghana’s capital, Accra, on September 25, and he will return at Christmas.

He said: “I did a degree in photography at the University of Wales in Newport, so I am going to Ghana to further my career.

“I should get some good shots out there, and it is good to know that I am using my skills for a good cause which is useful for others.”

If anyone wants to give a donation to Raleigh International, or to sponsor Peter on his mission, contact him on 01752 229881.
