About 90 Ghanaians serving various jail terms in Libya have been granted amnesty by the Libyan authorities.
The governments of both countries are currently discussing their evacuation to Ghana as soon as possible. The Libyan Ambassador to Ghana, Dr Mohammed T. Gamudi, disclosed these in Accra on Tuesday when he paid a courtesy call on the acting Ga Mantse, Nii Odotei Obour II, at his palace in Accra.
Dr Gamudi used the occasion to wish the Ga Mantse, Nii Amugi II, speedy recovery. He also presented two crates of canned minerals and assorted drinks to the Ga traditional area. Nii Odotei Obour, who is the Sempe Mantse, thanked the Libyan government for granting the Ghanaians the amnesty. He told the ambassador that the youth of Ghana who are very adventurous, often found their way to Libya through unapproved routes to seek greener pastures.
Nii Obour appealed to the ambassador to help accelerate development and cooperation in between both countries by reactivating socio-economic and cultural ties between them. The acting president informed the ambassador that the council, in collaboration with the recently inaugurated Old Accra Conservation and Redevelopment Authority (OACADA), was putting up a cultural centre and a museum to enhance and preserve the cultural heritage of the traditional area.
He appealed to the embassy for assistance towards the realisation of the dream.
