LIBRARY FOR SUPREME COURT

The Chief Justice, Mr.. Justice I.K. Abban, has commissioned a Central Library for the supreme court in Accra. The library, which is situated within the premises of the Ghana School of Law, was established with financial assistance of 63 thousand US dollars from the United States government. Mr.. Justice Abban noted that only a few lawyers can afford to own a library comprehensive enough to make them independent of a public library. It is, therefore, the policy of his administration to ensure that the Judiciary has a well-equipped library which all members of the legal profession can resort to, to enhance the development of the law and fair practice. Mr.. Justice Abban was, therefore, very grateful to the government of the United States for its contribution to the establishment of the library. He, however, cautioned that materials at the library should be used with responsibility. The Cultural Affairs Officer of the US Information Service in Accra, Mr.. Dudley O. Sims, said his country believes in the promotion of the Independence of the Judiciary and respect for the rule of law. Hence, its support for the library. The Acting Director of the Ghana School of Law, Mr.. Kwaku Ansa-Asare, said he has no doubt that Judges, legal practitioners, teachers and students will profit immensely from the library. A Judge of the Supreme Court, Mrs.. Justice Joyce-Bamford-Addo, who chaired the function, said books constitute a potent aid to the administration of justice and called on all to take very good care of the books and equipment at the library. The Cultural Affairs Officer of the US Information Service presented four Computers connected to the Internet, other electronic gadgets and legal literature to the library. End
