Gomoa Buduburam, (C/R) Nov. 9, GNA – The Anglican Priest In-charge of the Winneba District, the Reverend Father E. Quarshie Quarcoo, on Sunday advised Liberian refugees in the country not to attempt to take part in electioneering campaign and the forthcoming general election. He also advised them to desist from criminal and other activities that would make the people regret accepting them on their land but must be law-abiding and contribute towards the development of where they were staying.
Rev. Father Quarcoo gave the advice when he lead some members of the Anglican Church from Apam, Awutu Beraku, Senya and Winneba to join the All Souls Episcopal Anglican Church (ASEAC) at the Refugee Camp at Gomoa Buduburam to celebrate its twelve anniversary celebration day at Gomoa Buduburam in the Central Region.
There are over 20,000 Liberian refugees in the Refugees Camps at Sanzule in the Western Region and Buduburam.
Rev. Quarcoo stressed the need for a peaceful election and called on both Christians and Muslims, who were supporters of the various political parties to champion the cause of unity and love during and after the elections.
He further called on parents to counsel their children, especially the youth to refrain from acts of violence, hooliganism and lawlessness during and after the general elections since no country could develop without peace. In a sermon Cannel Joseph J. Bain Duodo, of the Kasoa branch of the Anglican Church said this is the time Christians should stand firm and offer continuous prayers for the nation pass the test of having peaceful elections. He added that people should stop pointing fingers at certain key leaders of the political divide of their perceived wrong doings. Cannel Duodo urged members of the church to become active members of peace-making efforts in their respective communities, irrespective of their political and religious affiliation. On behalf of the Anglican Church, Rev. Father Quarcoo presented food items, including five bags of rice, a basketful of Palm nuts, two gallons of cooking oil and quantities of Pineapples to the All Souls Episcopal Anglican church at the Camp.
Brother Javelee Kollie, Junior Warden of the Church received the items and thanked the Anglican Church for their kind gesture.
