Liberian Faction Leader Stops Over In Accra

Accra – General Roosevelt Johnson (rtd), Minister of Transport in the Liberian Transitional Government, today made a stop-over at Kotoka International Airport on his way to Abuja at the invitation of the ECOWAS Chairman, General Sani Abacha. General Johnson, a key player in the Liberian peace process, told newsmen that his meeting with the Nigerian head of state will centre on preparations for elections in Liberia. He said resettlement and repatriation will be high on the agenda because they are necessary for the election. The transport Minister said he is not running for the Liberian presidency because ”I did not take up arms to head or rule Liberia. ”What I did was to lend my support to peacemakers to ensure that the ECOWAS peace plan was implemented for a comfortable life for the Liberia people”. General Johnson said he was grateful to have achieved his mission by supporting ECOWAS to establish a level ground for the election. He commended President Jerry Rawlings for his personal commitment to peace in Liberia, saying his efforts and those of ECOMOG have been tremendous. Liberia, he said, is now calm with people going about their business.
