Liberian delegation studies Ghana’s transport sector

Accra, June 21, GNA – A delegation from the Transport Ministry of Liberia is in Accra on an assessment tour of Ghana’s transport sector. The four-man delegation led by Mr. Ebenezer Kolliegbo, Liberian Deputy Minister of Transport (Administration), is on a four-day study tour of some key agencies in Ghana’s transport sector, to learn about their operations and to adopt strategies that would benefit Liberia.

Mr. Lemuel Kleeme, Assistant Director Of Public Relations of the Liberian Ministry Of Transport, said various sectors in Liberia had been adversely affected by 15 years of civil war and Liberia had chosen Ghana as a model for the reconstruction of that sector, especially in aviation and road transport.

He stated that Liberia and Ghana had cordial relationship, especially in aviation, as Ghana had trained some Liberian aviation personnel as Air Traffic Controllers.

The Liberian delegation visited the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) as part of their tour.

Mr Kleeme said the resumption of flights by Delta and Air France to Liberia was a major achievement for Liberia’s post-conflict aviation sector.

“The resumption of Delta and Air France’s flights is a sign of the stability of airport security in the aviation sector of Liberia,” he said.

Air Commodore Kwame Mamphey (Rtd), Director-General of the GCAA, welcomed the delegation and briefed the members on the GCAA and its operations while a representative of Mrs. Doreen Owusu-Fianko, Managing Director, GACL, took them through the operations of the GACL.

The delegation has so far visited the Ministry of Transport, National Road Safety Commission, GCAA and GACL and would go to the Driver Vehicle Licensing Authority, Metro Mass Transport, Ghana Maritime Authority and other agencies in the transport sector.
