Liberal democracy to remain NPP hallmark – AG

Essikadu, (W/R) June 14, GNA – Papa Owusu Ankomah, Attorney General and Minister of Justice, at the weekend said liberal democracy, good governance and the rule of law would remain the hallmark of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He was speaking at an extra-ordinary delegates’ conference of the Essikadu-Ketan Constituency of the NPP at Essikadu, near Sekondi. Papa Ankomah, who is also the Member of Parliament for Sekondi, said the NPP would promote democratic values and asked the Party’s supporters to be dedicated and committed to these principles. He also advised them against self-aggrandisement and said the Party would focus on its objectives.

Papa Ankomah said the NPP would need enough time to enable it to implement its development programme. Mr Peter Mac-Manu, Western Regional Chairman of the NPP, criticised the recent celebration of June Four by the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He said the slogan for the NPP campaign is “Win and Win Well”. Madam Sophia Horner-Sam, Deputy Western Regional Minister, said the NPP would not use state resources for its electioneering campaigns and asked the branches of the Party to organise fund-raising rallies to mobilise funds for their electioneering campaigns.

Madam Horner-Sam also appealed to supporters to assist in ensuring that Election 2004 was free, fair and peaceful. Lawyer Joe Ghartey was confirmed as the Party’s Parliamentary candidate for the Essikadu-Ketan Constituency.
