Mr Justice Samuel Adjei, Deputy Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister, has called on Ghanaians to unite in the fight against corruption.
He said corruption had gradually become a canker that had eaten into the moral fibre of the Ghanaian society.
Mr Adjei said this on Friday during the regional celebration of Ghana’s 58th Independence Day Anniversary in Sunyani.
Under the theme: “Achieving Transformation through National Unity,” the anniversary parade was attended by 60 basic, senior high and vocational/technical schools in the region.
Also in attendance were contingents from the security services comprising the Military, Police, Prisons, Immigration, Fire and the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority.
Mr Adjei said: “Corruption erodes national resources and deprives the government of the capacity to invest in the people”.
He, therefore, urged all Ghanaians to unite to overcome the challenges for the survival of the nation, stressing that “we must agree and commit ourselves to a multi-partisan process to secure the future of the country in our developing effort to transform the nation”.
Mr Adjei advised the public to strive to build the nation devoid of partisan political affiliations, religious, ethnic or social differences.
He called on teachers and authorities of educational institutions to be diligent in their duties and maintain a high level of discipline in the schools.
Sunyani Senior High School was first at the second cycle level while Nyamaa School and Saint Vitus Preparatory School were also first at the junior high and primary school levels respectively.
The winners, as well as schools that came second and third, were given prizes including footballs, wall clocks and certificates.
