Let’s rise above violent solutions – Bishop Agyenta

The Most Reverend Alfred Agyenta, the Catholic Bishop of the Navrongo-Bolgatanga Diocese, has said the acts of violence and destruction breeds poverty and advised offenders to reconsider their actions.

Bishop Agyenta said he was disheartened at the rate of violence that had engulfed some parts of the region on chieftaincy issues, particularly, the recent clashes in the Bolgatanga Municipality that led to the destruction of property and threat to lives.

The Bishop made the statement at this year’s Rosary Devotional prayers where more than 500 members of the catholic faith had gathered to pray. The month of October is devoted to the Rosary and all Catholics are expected to pray the Rosary daily.

He said the Upper East Region was one of the poorest in the country and there was the need to unite to work to bring the needed development to the area.

Bishop Agyenta noted that the reckless behaviour of some youth at the least provocation could only bring destruction and impoverishment and called on the country’s leadership to have their people at heart and help to address these conflicts.

He also called on the traditional authority within the Municipality and other stakeholders to find lasting solutions to issues that resulted in the clashes in the Municipality.

The Bishop also made references to petty squabbles within the church and urged members to use the month of rosary devotion to seek intervention of the Holy Mother to strengthen the hearts of all to be tolerant.

“Reconciliation is a process and God is the One to do the healing,” the Bishop stressed.
