Let’s have confidence in the EC – Oppong-Kyekyeku

The Afigya-Kwabre District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr. Kwaku Oppong-Kyekyeku Kaakyire, has called for strong support for the Electoral Commission (EC) for smooth conduct of the coming November general polls.

He said it was important for all key political actors to have confidence in the commission and accept to work together in good faith to uphold the integrity of the elections.

The subtle pressure, unfair criticism and needless suspicion must cease.

Mr. Oppong-Kyekyeku who is the parliamentary candidate of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) for Afigya-Sekyere South, speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Kodie, said the critical thing to do was for everybody to remain vigilant.

He noted that every general election was critical and that this year’s poll could not be any exception.

The expectation therefore was that the political parties and their supporters would be sincere and get right with their act – play by rules of the game.

He said Ghana had come far in its practice of multi-party democracy and could not afford to disappoint itself with disputed elections.

The DCE advised against inflammatory rhetoric and demanded responsible conduct to calm the political temperature ahead of the elections.

He encouraged all those, who have just turned 18, to make sure that they got their names in the electoral roll during the limited voter registration exercise by the EC.
