Let’s ensure peace after Supreme Court ruling – Sarikyi

The Sarikyi of the Zongo Community of Saltpond, Mamah Nomabu V, has appealed to Ghanaians to ensure peace after the ruling of the Supreme Court on the Election Petition.

“I am particularly calling on the supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), to protect the peace the nation is enjoying after the Supreme Court ruling on the petition before it,” he stated.

Sarikyi Mamah Nomabu, known in private life as Alhaji Ahmed Ben Mahmood, and an Assistant Chief Pharmacy Technician at the Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital made the appeal in an interaction with the Ghana News Agency at Saltpond on Monday.

He said utterances of some followers of the political parties, suggested that Ghana was not all that safe, adding “we are sitting on a timing bomb.”

He called on the leaders of the political parties to educate their supporters to accept the ruling in good faith when it was passed, and to remain calm afterwards.

Sarikyi Mamah Nomabu also urged the leaders to demonstrate to their followers that they wanted peace and that violence would not take the nation anywhere but into destruction.

He appealed to the National Peace Council, religious organisations and civil societies to intensify their education on the need for Ghana to remain peaceful after the ruling of the Supreme Court.

Sarikyi Mamah Nomabu commended the National Peace Council, religious organisations and civil societies on the good job they did in the run-up to the 2012 general election and said since all was not over yet, they needed to intensify it until all was over.

He urged media practitioners and social commentators to be circumspect in their reportage and comments on the court proceedings, in order not to inflame tension.

The NPP flag bearer for the 2012 presidential election, Nana Akufo-Addo, his running Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and Jake Obetsebi Lamptey, the NPP Chairman, are in court challenging the results of the 2012 presidential race, which saw the Electoral Commissioner declaring John Dramani Mahama as winner and President-elect.
