Let’s ensure adequate provision for fire safety

Kumasi, Feb 25, GNA – The Atta Mills Foundation, a pro-democracy group, on Thursday called on the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) to ensure that all building designs have adequate provision for fire safety. A statement signed in Kumasi by the Life Patron of the Foundation, Togbe Mawufeame Fugah, said this had become necessary to bring down the incidence of domestic fires in the country.

It expressed worry about the situation where most buildings springing up, especially in urban areas, lacked fire detective systems, fire extinguishers, sprinklers and exit routes. The Foundation said this was unacceptable and needed to change to save lives and property.

It urged the managements of g overnment and private institutions, organizations and agencies to train and build the capacity of their staff for fire prevention. The Foundation conveyed its sympathies to former President Jerry Rawlings and his family for the recent fire that gutted their Accra Ridge residence. 25 Feb. 10
