Kumasi, Feb. 18, GNA – Political leaders have been urged to help to calm the growing tension and polarization of the country by exercising more discretion in their actions.
Alhaji Sulemana Gado, a leading member of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), said vilifying political opponents, aggressive posturing and intolerance was not the way to go.
He said party leaders needed to ensure acceptable conduct in order to help to preserve the unity and cohesion of the nation. Speaking with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Kumasi on Thursday, Alhaji Gado said, 93We owe it a duty to ourselves and posterity to protect the country’s democracy.”
He said Ghana had already won international admiration and became the success story of Africa’s democracy and 93we simply cannot falter.” Alhaji Gado said this demanded finding common ground and pulling together to push forward the national development agenda. He invited all the people to rally solidly behind President Mills’ Administration as it pressed ahead to make things better for all. He, however, called for more hard work and self-discipline among the government’s appointees and singled out for praise, Mr Tony Fofie, Chief Executive of the Ghana Cocoa Board, for the good job he was doing.
