Sawla(N/R), Aug.25, GNA – Mr. Peter Mac Manu National Chairman of New Patriotic Party (NPP), has urged executives, supporters and sympathisers to bury their differences and work in peace and unity to win the 2008 general elections.
He called on them to work hard to sensitise the electorates on the good policies and programmes of the government to enable them have an informed opinion about the government and vote to retain the NPP in power.
Mr. Mac Manu made the call at a meeting with NPP constituency executives of Sawla-Tuna-Kalba and Bole-Bamboi Districts at Sawla on Wednesday to address issues affecting the party in the Northern Region. He said the party could win more seats from the region in 2004 but failed due to some misunderstanding among the members and urged them to close their ranks to strengthen the party in the region. Alhaji Musah Ibrahim, Third National Vice Chairman of the NPP, entreated the executives to look for committed people in the constituencies to contest the Parliamentary seats, especially in constituencies where the party did not perform well. “We have to continue to work hard to ensure that our good becomes better and our better best,” he said and urged them to show love and care at all times to the electorates to encourage them to join the party.
During a courtesy call on the Yagbonwura Bawa Doshie, King of Gonjaland, at Damongo in the West Gonja District, he expressed appreciation to the government for the development projects within the traditional area.
He appealed to the government to tar the Fufulso-Damongo-Sawla road that linked the Northern Region to the Upper West Region to facilitate movement of goods and services between the two regions as well as encouragement to tourists to the Game Reserve at Larabanga. Mr. Mac Manu expressed the government’s appreciation to the Yagbonwura and the people of Gonjaland for co-existing peacefully with other ethnic groups.
He urged the people to collaborate with the government to maintain peace to enhance development in the area.
The National Chairman of NPP said government had kept faith with traditional rulers as evidenced by the appointment of a Minister to oversee the smooth administration of the chieftaincy institution. He promised to carry the concerns of the Yagbonwura directly to President John Agyekum Kufuor for attention, saying: “The government will not abandon Gonjaland”.
