Let us not take the peace for granted – Boadu

A Principal Civil Educator of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in the Asante-Akim South District, has asked Ghanaians not to take the peace they are enjoying for granted.

Mr E.V. Boadu said they should all collectively work to protect this especially as the nation prepared to go to the polls in December.

Speaking at a public education forum held by the commission at Asempaneye near Kumeso, he said political tolerance and accommodation of divergent views was very important to all parties saying “it was important for them to respect the views and opinions contrary to what they hold”.

He said the 1992 constitution guaranteed freedom of association and it was therefore entirely within the right of each and every one to decide which political party to belong adding that there should be no point for followers of the different political parties to see themselves as enemies.

Mr Boadu used the occasion to encourage all qualified voters in the area to ensure that they get their names in the voters’ register and pleaded with them to avoid double registration to save themselves from trouble.

He warned minors and aliens to stay completely away from the biometric registration exercise.

Nana Kwabena Aboaku, the chief of the town, appealed to politicians not to engage in mischief, insults and provocation.
