Accra, Dec. 23, GNA – Mr Ben Amoabeng Peprah, Greater-Accra Regional Chairman of the Progressive Transport Owners Association (PROTOA), has added his voice to the call on road users to be extra careful to make this Christmas an enjoyable one, devoid of accidents. To this end, he advised, that both motorists and the travelling public should observe road safety regulations to help reduce road accidents to the barest minimum.
Mr Peprah made the call in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at his office in Accra on Thursday, where he delivered his Christmas message to road users.
While warning motorists not to drive under the influence of alcohol, he also advised pedestrians to be cautious in the use of the roads. Mr Peprah urged drivers to be a little bit more careful in their observance of road traffic regulations, in order to render this year’s Christmas an accident-free one.
The Regional PROTOA Chairman urged drivers to show courtesy and goodwill towards members of the travelling public and appealed to the latter to reciprocate the gesture by showing lots of respect to the driving profession.
On lorry fares, Mr Peprah told drivers not to resort to arbitrary increases, but to stick to the approved fares to avoid unnecessary confrontations with passengers.
Turning to the just-ended elections, he congratulated President John Agyekum Kufuor on his re-election, and lauded the defeated presidential candidates for their courage to accept defeat in good faith. Mr Peprah said he was optimistic that with the elections now over, Ghanaians would close their ranks and strive for a common goal, by placing the welfare of the nation over and above their individual parochial interests.
