Awudome-Avenui, Oct 01, GNA – President John Agyekum Kufuor has said partisan politics and propaganda had created mutual suspicion between the government and the people of the Volta Region.
He said the people of the Volta Region felt the government did not trust them but ”this is a misconception the government wants to uproot and put aside. It is the government’s desire that the people deepen their trust in it.”
President Kufuor said this when he addressed a durbar of the chiefs and people of Awudome-Avenui in the Ho Municipality as part of his three-day official tour of the region.
He also inaugurated a 296 million-cedi block of three classrooms for the Methodist Junior Secondary School.
The block, financed with HIPC funds, included an office, a store, staff common room, a library and a four-seat KVIP.
President Kufuor said the government had done its best for the people of the Volta Region, providing them with development projects. “This is a government for the entire country and it will ensure all parts of the country get their fair share of development. This is the way to bring on board all Ghanaians.”
Adza Gbeklui Akodake XI, Dufie of Avenui, commended the government for the development of the area since 2001, called for the establishment a President’s Special Initiative on cassava in the area to create jobs for the youth and an agricultural senior school. Adza Akodake appealed to the government to rehabilitate roads in the area as well as a mass transport bus.
