Let nation’s democratic dispensation promote development

Kumasi, April 22, GNA – Torgbui Nyamekor, Paramount Chief of Avedakpa Traditional Area in the Volta Region, has said that the country’s democratic dispensation was a challenge for the people to share ideas.

He said “as a people with a common destiny, there is the need for us to reason together to facilitate not only the political development of the country but also ensure that the lives of individuals are brought to a higher standard”.

Torgbui Nyamekpor was addressing the opening session of the maiden meeting of the Voltarians Coordinating Council (VCC) in Kumasi at the weekend.

The meeting attended by Ewe chiefs, queens and youth leaders from various educational institutions and groups in the Ashanti Region discussed the launch of the second edition of the Amuzu Festival, visit to the Asantehene and honouring of people who have distinguished themselves in the promotion of peace and development in the region. The Paramount Chief said divisive tendencies based on politics, tribal, ethnic, language barrier and culture would not in any way help in the socio-economic development of the country.

Rev Torgbui Fugah, Ashanti Regional Head of the Ewes, said the Council was on course with its planned programmes and called for support from members at all times.

Torgbui Fugah urged the members who came from the various districts to try to contribute to the development of education in their areas and also support community development programmes. Mr. Evans Kwabla Ablordeppey, Ashanti Regional Youth Organizer of the VCC, appealed to the Ewe youth in the region to identify them selves with the activities of the council.
