Kumasi, Sept.1, GNA – The Ghana Travellers Welfare Association (GTWA) on Wednesday said the tragic loss of three Medical Practitioners of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra and five others should prompt Ghanaians to redouble their efforts to reduce the spate of road accidents.
The Association said it was obvious that road accidents were killing Ghanaians more than AIDS, Malaria and Tuberculosis. A statement issued in Kumasi and signed by Mr A. Baffuor Tutu, Founder and Interim President of the association on the accident said it was not just enough to complain and feel sad about the carnage on the roads.
It called on Ghanaians to support the National Road Safety Commission and other stakeholders by actively participating in their programmes and activities aimed at reducing road accidents to the barest minimum.
The statement said last Saturday’s accident was very shocking considering the circumstances in which it occurred and its effect on the nation.
It said for three out of the few urologists in the country to die together had worsened the already problems of Doctor-patient ratio. The association therefore, appealed to the Government to give the deceased a state burial in view of their patriotism, devotion and dedication to duty.
“This is important because as the saying goes, a nation that does not recognise and reward her patriotic heroes is not worth dying for.” The statement added.
