Legon Throws Out 700 For Non-Performance

About 700 students of the University of Ghana, Legon have been withdrawn for poor academic performance during the 2003/2004 academic year, sources at the university have hinted.

The sources said most of the affected students were undertaking programmes in the humanities and the sciences from level 100 to 300.

The academic affaires Directorate of the university , has released the results of the second semester examinations of the 2003/2004 academic year but only the pass list have been displayed on the various notice boards.

Students who could not find their names on the pass list, have been trooping to the registry to find out their fate.

According to the university?s regulations, students who obtain a cumulative grade point of below 1.5 at the end of every academic year are withdrawn.

In the 2002/2003 academic year, about 400 students were said to have suffered a similar fate, some of whom were later recalled due to a miscalculation of their cumulative grade points.

News about the large number of withdrawals has been a major subject for discussion on campus.

However, the university authorities would neither confirm nor deny the story.
