Legon TESCON commends government on work of PAC

Accra, Oct. 29, GNA – The Legon branch of the Tertiary Education Students’ Confederacy (TESCON) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has observed with “great delight” the work of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament at exposing the rots in the society that has drained the nation of significant resources which could have been put to very productive use for the benefit of Ghanaians.

A statement signed by Alexander Frimpong, President and Bright Acheampong, Press Secretary said, “What we are particularly glad about is that for the first time the work of the Committee has come to the public domain through the television broadcast.

“It is by such exercises that the nation’s commitment at eradicating the canker of corruption and its related crimes, which have bedevilled the nation since independence could be materialised.” It called on all Ghanaians to assist the Committee in diverse ways to enable it to carry out its work to the expected end. “The public should take keen interest in all activities both public and private in order to be able to alert the appropriate agency in the event of any attempt by a group or an individual to siphon the scarce resources of the nation”, the statement said. It commended the government for keeping faith to its pledge of fighting corruption through the concept of “no tolerance for corruption”.

The statement said, “That commitment has been amply demonstrated by the numerous anti-corruption programmes instituted and the immense assistance being offered to the PAC by government. It is also a testimony to the government’s unflinching readiness to rid the nation of all forms of corrupt practices. “We of TESCON are of the view that the fight against corruption is a collective responsibility of all Ghanaians since any untoward attitude of any public office holder has a dire negative consequence on the entirety of the citizenry.”
