Legon Faculty of Social studies honour members

Accra, Dec.12, GNA – The Faculty of Social Studies, University of Ghana, on Saturday honoured three distinguished faculty members for their=

immense contribution to research and dedication towards the faculty. They include Mr Ewoenam Yao Attidokpo, Dr George Owusu and Professor=

Steve Tonah. In an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Accra, Ms Abena Oduro,=

Vice-Dean of Social Studies said the awards were aimed at recognising faculty members who had excelled in the area of research. This she said would encourage the upcoming members to be committed t= o duty. Mr Attidokpo, a cleaner at the faculty, who won the Best Worker Awar= d, received a plaque and a citation which read: “You are very punctual and m= ake yourself available to whoever needs your services in the Department throughout office hours. “You never renege on your duties and you even accept additional duti= es with cheerfulness.” Dr Owusu, a development planning lecturer was adjudged the Most Promising young scholar for the 2009/2010 academic year. He also received a plaque and a citation which read: “You have made your work known not only in national and international journals but also participated and presented papers at national and worldwide workshops and=

conferences.”

Professor Tonah, Head of Sociology, who won the Best Researcher for the 2009/2010 academic year, received a plaque and a citation. “Since your appointment in the university, you have put up a meritorious performance as a lecturer and a researcher. You are noted wit= hin and across the borders of the country for cutting edge research from both=

sociological and interdisciplinary perspectives,” the citation said. Prof Tonah, on behalf of the recipients, thanked the awards committe= e and faculty for the honour, saying it would motivate them to discover mor= e areas of research in the coming years.
