Legislature to Visit Missions

Rt. Hon. Peter Ala Adjetey, Speaker of Parliament has urged all Ghanaians to work together to project a positive image of the country regardless of the enormous difficulties confronting us in our development efforts.

“In spite of differences over policy direction between the two sides of the house, all parliamentarians remain committed to the vision of a wealthy and prosperous Ghana and have always endeavoured to present a united front outside, particularly during international fora,” the Speaker added.

He was speaking at a meeting with senior officials of the Ghana High Commission while on transit in London.

Present at the meeting were the Mr. Isaac Osei, Ghana’s High Commissioner to the UK; Mr. Kwabena Baah-Duodu, the Deputy High Commissioner; Mr. Ken Tachie, Clerk of Parliament and Mr. Yaw Konadu-Yiadom, Head of Chancery.

Mr. Ala Adjetey assured the Mission that Parliament would continue to actively support the work of Ghana Missions abroad and the public service in general

which he described as an essential plank for the delivery of the government’s developmental agenda.

In pursuit of this, he announced that members of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Foreign Affairs would soon undertake a familiarisation tour to assess the peculiar requirements of key Missions like the London office to enable the Legislature provide the requisite legislative support to facilitate the operations of the country’s Missions.

He cautioned Ghanaians not to be overwhelmed by the developed world into thinking that Ghana can never catch up. He said this vision could be attained when the efforts of Ghanaians who had laid down their lives or were making sacrifices for the advancement of the country are recognised and adequately motivated.

Mr. Isaac Osei thanked the Speaker for sharing his wealth of experience with officials of the Mission and hoped that the talk would ginger the staff to work even harder to enhance the goodwill that Ghana enjoys in the international community.
