Lecturer urges professionals to stop seeking greener pastures

Kumasi, Sept 08, GNA – A lecturer at the Mechanical Technology and Graphic Communication Department of the Kumasi Campus of the University of Education Winneba has appealed to scientists and other professionals to stop seeking greener pastures outside at the expense of the development of the country.

Mrs Martha Danso described as unfortunate the present situation whereby scientists and professionals, trained with taxpayers’ money in the hope that they will reciprocate by rendering services to their people, desert the country.

She was speaking at the opening of the weeklong Science, Technology and Mathematics Education (STME) clinic for 128 students drawn from junior and senior secondary schools in the Kumasi metropolis. Mrs Danso urged women in science and technology to lead the crusade for more girls to develop interest in the two subjects to serve as role models for young girls.

Mr Appiah Dabo, an Assistant Director of Education, appealed to science and technology teachers to adopt appropriate strategies that could help make the teaching of the subjects easier for students. Mr Twumasi Amponsah, the Kumasi Metropolitan Director of Education, expressed disappointment over this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results and pledged to deal with teachers who do not take their work seriously.
