Leadership is about responsibility – Dr Aryee

Dr Joyce Aryee, Management and Communications Consultant on Friday called on leaders to exhibit the sense of responsibility in their duties, which comes with personal development.

She said a good leader must provide vision and direction and build decisions on consensus for mutual understanding and peaceful existence.

Dr Aryee made the call at the first public lecture of the 70th Anniversary of British Council, Ghana on the theme: “Career and Personal Development,” in Accra.

She said the value of integrity must be the guiding principle to leaders because “integrity builds trust and confidence in the administration of one’s work”.

Dr Aryee asked leaders to be passionate about their profession, work hard and should be team players to achieve positive and advance results.

She called on people in authority to empower others adding: “No matter how powerful or efficient we are as leaders, we cannot seek to everything without empowering others.”

Dr Aryee said acquiring knowledge is one of the features for one to build an effective career, hence the need for the development of the right mind-set to achieve success.

She said it behooves the youth to be curious in life and be willing to learn and seek knowledge beyond the classroom to meet their future aspirations.

Dr Aryee urged them to strive to upgrade their skills by learning foreign languages like French and Chinese to make themselves marketable for job opportunities.

British Council is an international organisation that works in the area of education, arts, science, sport, governance and cultural relations.
