Leaders seek government intervention

Busunya (B/A), Aug. 12, GNA – Opinion leaders in 11 communities in Nkoranza North District have petitioned the government, to resolve the impasse between the District Chief Executive, Mr Kwadwo Agyei-Dwomor and 13 Assembly members, who have declared no confidence in him.

The petitioners stressed the impasse was affecting the development of the district as the Assembly Members “do not meet to initiate new development programme in the communities”.

The communities are Busunya, Bonte, Bomini, Boabeng, Fiema, Akurudwa Number Two, Akonkonti and Odumasi.

The others are Dromankuma, Boama and Taaho.

The petition was signed by five of the leaders, namely Oheneba Kingsley Yeboah, Busunya Central Unit Committee Chairman, Nana Okofo Nyarko Gyabaa 11, Chief of Busunya, Nana Asante Krobea, Chief of Bonte, Nana Baffo Korkor, Chief of Bomini and Nana Sarfo Kantanka, Chief of Fiema.

Oheneba Yeboah later told the Ghana News Agency that the 13 Assembly Members passed a vote of no confidence motion against the DCE and walked out of an Assembly session.

He said after the incident the government appointees of the Assembly were dismissed for being part of the “rebel” group.

The unit committee chairman said the Regional Coordinating Council set up an Investigating Committee to study the case but since January when the committee completed its task, nothing had been heard about their findings.

The Nkoranza North District Assembly consists of 27 Assembly members and with the dismissal of the nine Government Appointees and the revolting 13 Assembly Members, the remaining five Assembly members cannot form a quorum.

The community leaders called on the government to consider the plight of the people of the new district, who are faced with teething problems and help resolve the impasse to promote peace and understanding among the Assembly Members and the DCE.
