Leader of robbery gang arrested

A team of Military and Police personnel, has arrested a suspected leader of a five-member robbery gang that has been terrorizing residents in Kumasi.

Mohammed Musah, alias “Redbone” and his group were believed to have gunned down a 32-year-old pregnant woman, Ataa Achiaa at Duase New Site in Kumasi on May 20, this year, during a robbery operation. Kofi Tenkorang, who together with Joseph Oppong received gun shot wounds in that robbery attack, later had one of his legs amputated at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).

Musah, who was linked with a number of robberies, had been on the Police wanted list.

The Ashanti Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Patrick Timbillah, confirmed the story to GNA in Kumasi. He said that the suspect was captured at Dichemso Plaza, a popular spot in Kumasi, after the team had shot him in the leg, when he made a daring attempt to flee. DCOP Musah had to be rushed to KATH, where he was on admission for two days. 11 Aug 09
