Leader Of Armed Robbers Arrested ?

The Police have arrested a thirty-five year old man believed to be the leader of a gang of armed robbers, which have been terrorising residents in Accra.

The man, Davedam Apah, was arrested by the Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) on a tip-off after he and his gang robbed a customer of the SSB Bank Limited at the its Industrial area branch in Accra yesterday.

The robbers allegedly snatched an amount of 7.5 million cedis, which the customer had just withdrawn from the bank in the morning.

The Police believe it was the same gang, which robbed two foreigners at the Golden Lemon Lodge on Saturday.

The robbers robbed the two foreigners, an Indian businessman and a middle-aged German of their belongings after they charged into the hotel at Tesano in Accra, brandishing their pistols.

Some of the items they stole included, official documents, $3,000 in cash, travellers cheques, a laptop computer, mobile phone, three international credit cards, passport and an airline ticket.

Police found part of the travellers’ cheques and the money on the suspect. He was also carrying a pistol and rounds of ammunition. The Police are still searching for his accomplices.
