Subi (E/R), Feb. 9, GNA – The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Charities has refurbished and handed over 79 boreholes in the Kwaebibirem District at a cost of 780 million cedis. The project was in response to an appeal to the Charities by the district assembly for assistance to get the boreholes working again to meet the water needs of the communities.
Presenting the refurbished boreholes to the assembly at a ceremony at Subi, near Kade, Elder William Strong, Country Director of the charities, explained that the Charities, the humanitarian arm of the church, was out to serve the needs of communities. He said the Charities raised the amount from donations by Church members around the world.
Elder Strong advised the beneficiary communities to set up a well-organized, trained and functioning Water Sanitation Committee to properly manage the boreholes for sustainable use. “The committee should promote good hygiene practices and proper use of clean water”, Elder Strong said.
Mr K. M. Offei, the District Co-ordinating Director, commended the LDS Charities for their humanitarian gesture and asked the beneficiary communities to pay their commitment fees to facilitate work on the project and ensure the continued operation and maintenance of the system.
The Subihene, Barima Amoah Bosompem II, while thanking the LDS Charities for their invaluable assistance, appealed to them for drugs for the Subi Clinic.
