Lawyer call for support for NHIS

Awutu-Beraku (C/R), Sept. 10, GNA- Mr David Nana Larbie, a London-based Ghanaian Legal Consultant, has described the National Health Insurance Scheme as a “saviour” for the people, especially the poor in the society, and counselled Ghanaians to embrace it. He said the new health delivery policy designed to replace the “Cash and Carry” is very useful, adding that many developed countries were practising it.

Nana Larbie, who is currently in the country on a visit, was discussing Ghana’s new health policy with members of the Public Relations Team of the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Mutual Health Insurance Scheme (AESDMHIS) at Awutu-Beraku on Friday. The London-based legal adviser who contested the Awutu/Senya Parliamentary Seat in last year’s general elections, declared his full support for the NHIS and promised to pay the premiums of ten needy persons in the Awutu Traditional Area to ensure early take-off of the scheme in the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District.

Nana Larbie urged the citizenry not to allow partisan affiliations to erode their collective interest and determination to offer the needed push for nationwide implementation of the scheme.

In another development Naachie Dede Akaabi XIV, Queenmother of the Awutu Traditional Area also underscored the importance of the NHIS, and charged Ghanaians to embrace it.

She called on people in the Awutu Traditional Area to register and pay their premiums on time to enable the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Assembly to launch the scheme before the end of the year. Naachie Dede Akaabi also pledged to pay the premiums of five needy persons to complement Nana Larbie’s initiative.

Mr. Joseph Yaw Owusu-Kwarteng, Public Relations Manager of the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Mutual Health Insurance Scheme and leader of the public relations team thanked the two opinion leaders for their high sense of nationalism and expressed the hope that they would maintain the spirit.
