Lawra inaugurates health insurance governing board

Lawra, April 12, GNA – Mr Ambrose Dery, the Upper West Regional Minister, has inaugurated a 15- member Lawra District Mutual Health Insurance governing board and expressed regret at the slow implementation of the scheme in the region.

He appealed to traditional rulers in the region to throw their weigh behind the scheme by mobilizing their people in their numbers to register with the scheme.

Lawra District, with 157 communities, has so far been able to register only 350 fully paid up members for the scheme that takes off in June.

Mr Dery also addressed a meeting of the general assembly of the Lawra District Mutual Health Insurance Scheme that comprises one representative from each of the 157t communities.

The minister urged the people to do everything possible to register with the scheme so as to relieve the poor and the vulnerable the tribulations of the cash and carry system.
