Land disputes remain a thorny issue that could disturb the peace prevailing in the Lawra District if immediate measures are not taken to find amicable settlements, Mr Samson Abu, Lawra District Chief Executive has said.
He said even though peace was prevailing in the district, issues of land disputes have the potential of derailing it.
Mr Abu said this when he addressed the members of the Lawra District Assembly at its general meeting in Lawra at the weekend.
He appealed to the Lawra Traditional Council to collaborate with other stakeholders to ensure a peaceful and speedy resolution of all land disputes and ensure justice.
Mr Abu, who is also the Member of Parliament-elect for the Lawra Constituency, said the Lawra District Assembly was prepared to support the Council and all other stakeholders to help find quick and an amicable resolution of any existing disputes.
He commended the traditional council, religious organisations and civil society organisations as well as the inhabitants for playing active roles in sustaining the peace in the area despite the numerous challenges.
The District Chief Executive also announced that the Food and Agriculture was collaborating with the International Centre for Enterprise and Sustainable Development to provide the needed infrastructure to start with the “Enhanced Guinea Fowl Project” at the Babile Agricultural Station in the Lawra District.
He called for greater collaboration with their neighbours in Burkina Faso to ensure the smooth implementation of the project and to encourage more farmers to diversify their activities.
