Law to compel officials to send their children to public schools

Drobo (B/A), Nov 01, GNA – Mr Twumasi Ankrah, the Headmaster of Demonstration D.C. Junior Secondary School, has appealed to ministers of state, MPs and individuals occupying top positions to enrol their children in public schools.

He said this when Mrs. Anna Nyamekye, MP for Jaman South, presented one million cedis to the school for emerging as the best in the district in the 2004 Basic Education Certificate Examination.

The presentation coincided with the Parent Teachers Association meeting of the school.

Mr Ankrah said public schools were not performing creditably considering the calibre of trained teachers.

He called for legislation to compel ministers to send their children to public schools to enhance the image of such schools. The headmaster said because some dignitaries had enrolled their children in the school, it had been excelling in the BECE.

He said since 2001 when the school started sitting for the BECE, all the 269 candidates presented scored hundred percent with the least aggregate 23.

Mr Twum Barimah, out going chairman of the PTA, commended the government for institution the capitation grant. He said although the school was a public one, the PTA constructed all the three unit classrooms, offices and the stores. 01 Nov 05
