Law against elopement of girls

Jambusi (UW), Jan 10, GNA – The newly created Wa West District would soon institute and enact by-laws that would compel negligent parents to take good care of their children and to mete out severe punishment to people, who elope with school girls for marriage. Victims of the circumstances would not only be fined according to the traditional demands, but would also be prosecuted in law courts to face the full rigours of the law.

Mr Daniel Dari Kuusono, Wa West District Chief Executive hinted at Jambusi, a fishing community in the district, when he visited them as part of his familiarization tour of the district. He said it was becoming necessary for the institution of such by-laws, because of the high rate of negligence on the part of parents and elopement cases in the district.

Mr Kuusono said these two social vices were not only undermining human dignity, but was also retarding progress, as the children were not given the necessary attention needed to grow up to be self-reliant and responsible citizens.

The DCE advised the people against politicising government policies, as that had the tendency of misleading the people to go astray in their developmental agenda.

He warned those who were politicising the National Health Insurance Scheme to desist from such rumours, as that could deceive the people to miss the benefits of the scheme.

The people appealed to the government to construct a junior secondary school block, feeder roads and teachers’ quarters for them, so that standard of education in the area could be raised in the coming years.
