Launch of Atta Mills Foundation postponed

The Planning Committee of the first anniversary of the death of President Professor John Evans Atta Mills has announced the postponement of the launch of a humanitarian foundation to honour the late president.

The launch was originally scheduled to be held on Monday, July 22, 2013 at the Accra International Conference Center to coincide with the first of annual lecture series to be held in his honour.

“The launch of the Atta Mills Foundation which was originally scheduled to be part of the programme will take place at a later date,” a statement signed by the Spokesperson of the Committee, Kofi Nyantakyi, said.

Prof. Atta Mills died on July 24, 2012 at the 37 Military Hospital after a short illness. He had five months to complete his first tenure in office. He had been Ghana’s opposition leader for eight years prior to his election as president in 2008.

A foundation-stone laying ceremony for a memorial research library is scheduled to be held on Saturday, July 27, 2013. The library is to be affiliated to the University of Cape Coast.
