Launch campaign against abandoning of babies

Accra, July 4, GNA – The Government and civil society organisations have been urged to launch a nationwide campaign against the abandoning of babies due difficulties.

Mr Philip Quarcoe, President of the Unity Christian Charity (UNICCART) Club, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) aimed at providing relief for the needy, made the call in Accra at a fund raising get-to-together in support of the Bawjiase Orphanage.

He said the practice was a contributory factor to the increasing number of orphans in the country, saying, “A nationwide education will help to facilitate a change in the attitudes of some nursing mothers who have the courage to abandon their babies”.

Mrs Emma Boafo Yeboah, Mother of the Orphanage, thanked the NGO for the support, which she said was the second by UNICCART this year. She appealed to other NGOs and philanthropic organisations for assistance to enable the Orphanage to care for the 104 inmates. The fund-raising yielded 2, 250, 000 cedis.
