Latex Foam Rubber Product Company Limited on Monday donated quantities of items including canopies, plastic chairs and reflective jackets to the Northern Regional Command of the Visibility Unit of the Ghana Police Service to enhance the work of the unit.
Mr Isaac Offei, Kumasi Branch Marketing Manager of the Company who presented the items said the company was also presenting 25 pieces of student mattresses to the Police to be used by detainees in cells in fulfilment of its corporate social responsibility.
He said the police have been proactive in combating crime in the country but needed tools and equipment from corporate organizations and individuals to ensure that they met the standard society demanded of them hence the donation.
Mr Offei said his outfit had in the past contributed logistics to aid the work of the police stressing that similar presentations had been made in eight regions and would make similar donations to the remaining regions.
He observed that the Visibility Unit of the Police had been helpful but was ill equipped noting that the canopies would serve as shades to provide a comfortable post for the personnel to carry out their duties effectively.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Edward Johnson Akrofi-Oyirifi, Deputy Northern Regional Police Commander commended Latex Foam for swiftly responding to the request of the Police by donating the items and appealed to other benevolent organizations across the country to contribute their quota in assisting the police meet its logistical needs.
He said the division was set up as part of a broader concept of the Ghana Police Service to provide adequate security to the citizenry through a vibrant policing methodology.
ACP Akrofi-Oyirifi indicated that the Visibility Unit of the Police was undergoing transformation and has therefore changed its name to Police Patrols Division, which had contributed greatly to crime reduction in the country and as a result, the Police Administration would introduce new reforms to enable it perform satisfactorily.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Hannah Adjei, Northern Regional Police Patrols Commander indicated that the division was undergoing through some reforms to strengthen and make it more responsive to the security needs of the people.
She explained that the division would be patrolling various vicinities to detect and prevent crime and also collaborate with other units to ensure public safety stressing that members of the public could also contact the division about their security concerns.
ASP Adjei said the division would also educate the public about their security needs especially about their security concerns such as wearing seat belt and crash helmets to reduce the rates of accidents.
